O2 Cool Battery Operated Fan

2006 was a really hot summer for us in Southern California and spending time traveling with the dogs necessitated I get some better fans to help keep them cool.

I was at an agility show one meltingly hot weekend and saw a myriad of cooling devices which inspired me to find something powerful and flexible. I promptly went online and found the “O2 Cool 10-inch Battery Operated Fan” which claims to be the “most powerful battery operated fan available.” It really seemed to offer what I needed – battery or AC adapter, two speeds and the ability to use it hanging or freestanding. The internet revealed the fan from many sources in a WIDE range of prices and then I discovered it on a shelf in the camping section of a local store for under $15 so I bought three of them!

The version I purchased (Model #1053) does not have the AC adapter and it takes a whopping EIGHT “D” batteries which are supposed to last up to 72 hours. However, it can get expensive when one accidentally leaves the fan on. Oops! The batteries make the fan very heavy but the weight would likely help keep it stable if you were to use it in a freestanding application. I did manage to snap off one of the hooks by trying to hang it backwards. I used a bungee to hang it which worked, but that was a bit disappointing.

I’ve used the fans while traveling to get the air conditioning ventilated towards the back of the vehicle and while crating the dogs in the car to keep the cool shade air circulating. Not too big, not too small, it is 12" x 12” x 3.8" deep. The modest size allows it to hang while traveling and not block my view of the road.

So far, I’ve been pleased with the fan’s performance and will probably order the AC adapters. I would like to see a DC adapter which would allow me to plug directly into the DC/Lighter spot on the dash of my vehicle, but I don’t think it is offered with this model. I may try to find something generic and will post back with the results if it works.

Overall, I give the “O2 Cool 10-Inch Fan” a paws up!

Search Google for a variety of sources for the O2 Cool 10" fan.
